Level 1 Exam Process

The ILS Level 1 Insurance Licensing Final Exam is included as part of your ILS Level 1 General or Adjuster Insurance Licensing Program. You must schedule and write your final exam within 6 months of your initial purchase date.

Level 1  Insurance Licensing Exam Format:

Online exam

Time allowed: 3 hours

Question format: 200 True/False questions

Passing grade: 80%.

Students need to nominate a proctor using the proctor nomination forms below.

The Exam Rewrite fee is $150.00 plus tax and any proctor fees that might apply.

ILS Level 1 Licensing Proctor Forms

In British Columbia and Saskatchewan, the following can proctor an exam:

REWRITE RULES SASKATCHEWAN GENERAL INSURANCE & ADJUSTER – Pursuant to Section 4 of the Saskatchewan General Insurance Council Bylaws, a person is allowed to attempt the examination a maximum of three (3) times in any six (6) month period.

In Manitoba, the following can proctor an exam:

Government Administrator Government locations(libraries, village clerks’ offices, M.B. Services offices, government exam centres)

REWRITE RULES MANITOBA GENERAL INSURANCE: Pursuant to Section 2(7) of the Regulation 389/87 R, an applicant is not entitled to more than three (3) examinations in any six (6) month period.

REWRITE RULES MANITOBA INSURANCE ADJUSTER: Pursuant to Section 9 of Insurance Adjusters Licensing Rules, an applicant is not entitled to more than three (3) examinations in any twelve (12) month period.

In New Brunswick the following can proctor an exam:

Education Professionals Educational Institutions (recognized post-secondary colleges, universities)
Be currently employed by IBANB Insurance Brokers Association of NB

REWRITE RULES NEW BRUNSWICK GENERAL INSURANCE:
Should the third exam be failed, the student must wait six (6) months to re-write the failed exam. Should an exam fail following the six-month waiting period, the period begins again based on the date of the second failed exam.

Once a proctor is approved, you may write your exam at the location of your choosing, so long as the proctor is present.

If you do not have a proctor, you can take the ILS Level 1 General Insurance Licensing Final Exam at an invigilation centre.

Exam Procedures:

When you’re ready to write your exam, nominate a proctor and book an exam time (please see eligible proctors above).  You need to complete the proctor nomination form and send it to our office for approval.  Please allow two business days for proctor approval.  You are responsible for any proctoring fees that are charged.  Once your nominated proctor has been approved we will contact you to confirm, and we will send required information to the proctor.  This is an online exam so you need to ensure there is a computer and internet access available.

The exam is closed book and is done online in accordance with the rules and regulations for general insurance examinations set forth by the Insurance Council of British Columbia.

Steps for writing your exam:

  1. Study course materials until you feel you’re familiar with all areas and are ready to write the exam.
  2. Book a time with proctor facility and complete the proctor nomination form.
  3. Allow two business days for proctor approval.
  4. Arrive at your exam early, ensure you have photo id and that you do not take any books or electronic devices into the exam room.
  5. Once exam is complete or the allotted time has passed, submit the exam, and your results will appear immediately.
