Alberta Care-First: Case Manager Education for Independent Adjusters

Mandatory training | 15 Adjuster Technical CE hours | Free for active ILScorp Adjuster members

Alberta’s Care-First auto insurance system takes effect January 1, 2027. This online, self-paced course prepares independent adjusters to manage injury claims under the new system and help injured people access benefits, treatment, and recovery support.

Why is this training mandatory?

The Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) requires independent adjusters to complete Care-First Case Manager Education so they understand their roles and responsibilities under the new system. The requirement applies to Adjuster Levels 1, 2 and 3, including Level 3 Designated Representatives. It also applies to non-Alberta residents who hold an AIC adjuster licence.

The Government of Alberta expects independent adjusters to complete the training before working on any Care-First claim. AIC also requires completion before renewing an adjuster licence in 2027. The annual licence renewal period runs from May 1 to June 30.

What does the course cover?

Work through 19 self-paced modules covering the Care-First claims journey, benefit eligibility and administration, treatment options, recovery planning, and communication with injured people. Topics include:

  • The case manager role and the Care-First Case Management Framework
  • The Program of Care, customized treatment, and medical assessments
  • Care and treatment benefits and daily living assistance
  • Income replacement and other monetary benefits
  • Permanent impairment and catastrophic injuries
  • Dispute resolution and third-party liability

Module quizzes help you check your understanding as you progress.

Continuing education and member access

Completion of this mandatory course provides 15 Adjuster Technical CE hours and satisfies the annual CE requirement. Adjusters who are normally exempt from CE must still complete the mandatory training.

The course is FREE for all active ILScorp Adjuster members as part of their subscription.
